I realised that sharing the Into the BARN project would be an important part of the Craft Unit's history to remember here. In 2018, I secured the Bishop's Barn in Wells for a pop-up shop and exhibition. The space itself is an incredible old tithe barn that had, over the years, fallen out of public use, following a past of vibrant music events and community gatherings. This project wanted to change that and bring it back to the heart of the community. It was really exciting to be able to showcase the Craft Unit there, alongside an exhibition in collaboration with Banwell Pottery, Orchard Vale Trust, Artbox Frome and Robin Meader Artist. The barn thronged with customers throughout the week and once again became a vibrant space. We had workshops running throughout the week as well as storytelling by Openstorytellers. It was fantastic to be able to share such a wealth of creative work, predominantly made by makers with learning disabilities, with members of the public. It is creating those connections that I love most about selling this work. Seeing the joy on people's faces when they find something they love and then even more so when they hear the story of its origins. Here are some pictures to enjoy!
